THE CYCLE OF NARCISSISTIC ABUSE:

  • IDEALIZATION

The action of love-bombing and mirroring their victim as they pose as the victims soulmate. Creating something as perfect or better than in reality. The victim may quickly become addicted to the intoxicating charm of the narcissist.

  • DEVALUATION

The narcissist withdraws emotionally, physically, and sexually. Blames the victim for the their unhappiness. There may be intermittent outbursts in rage and frequent silent treatments.

  • DISCARDING

The narcissist becomes bored and seeks other supplies. The victim will begin to question the relationship. If the new supply isn’t enough, the narcissist will come back and repeat stages 1 & 2.

  • HOOVERING

The narcissist attempts to draw the victim back into the relationship by any and all means. I.E. crying, begging, blame shifting, and guilt tripping. Ultimately repeating the toxic patterns.
